Editor of the Student Newspaper

Not quite ready to leave Newcastle University behind just yet? Wanting to pursue a career in journalism and media? Nominate yourself for Editor of the Courier!

As well as being a trustee of NUSU, this officer edits and is responsible for the content of the Courier. They also support media across NUSU including NSR and TCTV and lead and train a team of Editors and writers in the production of our award winning student newspaper. The post runs from the end of June 2018 to July 2019.

You must be a current student and run in an election to secure this position. Nomination close at 12pm on Thursday 15 February 2018 and training is being held on Saturday 17 February for all candidates. Other important dates:

  • 9am Monday 5 March: Voting Opens
  • 12pm Thursday 8 March: Voting Closes
  • 7.30pm Friday 9 March: Results Announced

This role can be done at the end of your degree or as a placement year (depending on your course). Your salary will be £19,305.

Along with your nomination, you must submit a manifesto. You should make it clear why students should vote for you and why you believe you’d be right for the job. Your manifesto must be submitted separately to your nomination form via email  (generaloffice.union@ncl.ac.uk).

Your manifesto for The Courier must be 200 words maximum. It should also not be much shorter than this.

The 200 word manifesto for inclusion in The Courier must be in the form of a Microsoft Word document. Please type in Times New Roman, size 12 font. Please save this document as your NAME, POSITION you are standing for and the word MANIFESTO.

You can also submit an online manifesto of up to 500 words which may include the use of images, videos or any other contents which may be reasonably included in a NUSU web page. Again, this manifesto should be emailed to generaloffice.union@ncl.ac.uk by the deadline on Thursday 15th February at 12pm. Alongside your manifesto, you must also submit via-email (generaloffice.union@ncl.ac.uk) a passport sized photograph of yourself. Please try to ensure this is against a white background and of a high resolution, as it will be displayed in The Courier.
