Medical Humanities Special Collections & Archives Internship, Newcastle University

Closing date: 18/03/2024

Student requirements: Postgraduate students from all degree disciplines are welcome to apply.

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 80 hours, working approximately 15 hours per week between May and June. Working days and times are flexible.

Bursary/wage: £17.19 per hour including holiday pay

Description: You will work closely with Newcastle University’s Medical Humanities Network to undertake Special Collections-based work to uncover information and documents relating to the Medical School’s historic specimen collection.

Innovation Lab Pilot Student Project Co-ordinator, Newcastle University

Student requirements: Students from all degree disciplines are welcome to apply.

Closing date: 18/03/2024

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 120 hours between 15 April and 30 August. You will work approximately 6 hours per week, the actual number of hours per week will vary.

Bursary/wage: £13.76 per hour including holiday pay

Description: We are looking for a highly talented, dedicated and organised project co-ordinator to assist the Academic Lead on this project, supporting the recruitment of student participants and ensuring the smooth operation of the pilot. The project co-ordinator will also take the lead on the administrative and co-ordination arrangements for the pilot.

Intern for Black History Month funded project (Heritage Centre of Research Excellence), Newcastle University

Description: The Centre for Heritage is now recruiting for an intern to work with its Directors and Executive Board to aid in the organisation of events and activities on the Black History Month group funded project “King Leopold II of Belgium & the Armstrong Building: a pilot project for NU Campus Legacies”.

Film & Marketing Intern – Bear Essentials Clothing Ltd

Student requirements: Students from all degree disciplines with experience in video production are welcome to apply.

Duration: This internship will run for 50 hours undertaken flexibly around your course. You will work remotely.

Description: Bear Essentials is a dynamic company dedicated to crafting high-quality handmade accessories from natural and sustainable materials. As a Film and Marketing assistant, you will be responsible for creating compelling visual content to promote our brand and products across various digital platforms.

Marine Summer School Teaching Assistant

Student requirements: These internships are open to Newcastle University students studying one of the following subjects: Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Marine Biology, Marine Zoology, Animal Science, Earth Science, Geography.

Closing date: 10/04/2024

Duration: The internships are each expected to be for a total of 175 hours, working approximately 35 hours per week between July and August

Bursary/wage: £17.19 per hour including holiday pay

Description: The Summer School Assistants will support the delivery of three Summer Schools, each a week-long for 9-11 year olds, 11-14 year olds and 15-18 year olds. The role will require teaching, delivery of course content, and planning and development in the weeks between the summer schools.

Research Internship – Developing VR Environments

Student requirements: This internship is open to all Newcastle University students; however, it would be particularly suited to Stage 3 computing students.

Closing date: 07/04/2024

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 60 hours, working approximately 10 hours per week between July and September

Bursary/wage: £17.19 per hour including holiday pay

Description: Dr Zachary Petzel is seeking a research assistant to help with developing virtual reality experiences in the School of Psychology. Development of these tools will assist in postgraduate research which focuses on factors which influence risky decision making among vulnerable groups (e.g., university students) using behavioural, cardiovascular, and neuroscience methods.

NU-Farms Summer Internship

Student requirements: This internship is open to Newcastle University undergraduate students able to demonstrate a strong link to Agriculture, Food and Rural Development within their degree programme.

Closing date: 07/04/2024

Duration: This internship is expected to be for a total of 350 hours, working approximately 35 hours per week between July and September.

Bursary/wage: £13.58 per hour including holiday pay

Description: Increased data capture has been recognised as a priority area within our first ‘NU-Farms 5 Year Teaching and Research Strategy’, published in 2022. This summer internship position is available to assist us with this activity, whilst also engaging in other farm activities such as open days. The successful applicant’s work will focus on both arable and livestock/grazing systems.

Software Developer Intern, Luggage-Point

Student requirements: This internship is open to Newcastle University students

Duration: This internship will run for 200 hours undertaken flexibly around your course. You will attend business premises as well as work remotely.

Bursary/wage: £2,500 Bursary

Description: We require software upgrades to maintain our service, presence and growth and where necessary a re-write of our service provision that will take us through the next 10 years of development taking into account Windows base platforms are used. Also website upgrade/development is required.

Analytical and Test Method Development Intern – AkzoNobel

Student requirements: This internship is open to undergraduate students from a chemical degree discipline.

Duration: 300 hours full-time over the summer vacation

Bursary/wage: £3,750 Bursary

Description: Akzo Nobel is a global paint and performance coatings manufacturer. The Test Methods Development group works in tandem with the Analytical team to provide new and innovative test methods to allow for coating testing, identification, and diagnostics.
The internship will be working closely with both these teams to help research and develop test methods for one of our ongoing projects to support R&D.

Computer Image Analysis of Marine Microalgae Intern – AkzoNobel

Student requirements: Open to all Newcastle University students on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in computer science or a related field

Closing date: 08/04/2024

Duration: 300 hours, either part-time or full-time, starting at a flexible date from late May/June 2024

Bursary/wage: £3,750 Bursary

Description: AkzoNobel are a leading marine coatings company that develops innovative solutions for marine fouling control. An intern will support Computer Vision Automated Image Analysis of Marine Microalgae (slime) Assessment. You will work with our R&D department to develop and test a computer vision system that can analyse images of slime and extract relevant features and metrics.

Film Production Intern – Bridge & Tunnel Productions

Student requirements: This internship is open to all Newcastle University students

Closing date: 08/04/2024

Duration: 50 hours over the summer vacation

Bursary/wage: £3,750 Bursary

Description: Bridge + Tunnel is a BAFTA-nominated media production company. The internship will be to support the business’s activities and tasks may include research, social media content creation, grant application support, location scouting, and admin associated with making a feature film, documentary film or TV series.
